Food to Power
Find Your Flavor is one of our most popular hands on activities. Participants create personalized spice blends to represent the elements of personality and identity that make up their unique selves and give them power. We then share our creations, taste them, and take them home so that we can smell or taste them when we need to be reminded of who we are. This can be a youth workshop, or a session that models (for adults/educators) how to run the activity and how to use food to connect young people to themselves and each other. We'll model how to run this specific activity in a classroom or out of school time setting. We'll also share and discuss general tips for how food can be used to support youth in connecting more deeply to their own identities/cultures and to each other in an affirming and healthy way, even without cooking infrastructure. We will connect these practices to the importance and the praxis of creating braves community spaces for young people both in school and in informal education spaces.
