The New Board Training class discusses the history and organization of housing cooperatives; as well as the financial, legal, and ethical responsibilities of board members.
The Director knows that things in a cooperative don’t “just happen”. They knows that conduct-ing a cooperative’s business involves millions of dollars a year, and several times that in total assets. It involves the lives of all who live there.
“Where am I?” is frequently the first question asked by a new Board member in any hous-ing cooperative. Regrettably, many of our new Board members have little experience either in housing cooperatives or in organizational administration. Soon they are awash in a sea of details and responsibilities without any clear picture of the overall role of the individual Board member.
You were elected by your membership, you are a leader, use your talents to be a better person. This will help you to become a much more effective board member.
