The FDA published the much-anticipated final version of Food Traceability Final Rule. This rule impacts organizations in the entire domestic food supply chain and foreign companies producing food for US consumption. The ability to trace products and their important ingredients has long been an important tool for the food industry to identify the root cause of product defects, food safety and quality failures, to limit the scope of necessary actions in the event an issue occurs, and to prevent recurrence of an issue. The FDA Traceability Rule established minimum requirements for specific foods in the food supply chain under the Food Safety Modernization Act. This session will explore the FDA regulatory requirements, their relationship to existing programs and standards. The session will also discuss challenges and benefits of traceability and approaches to establishing a robust and compliant traceability program.
