According to intersectionality theory, African-American women in America are a “double minority” (Crenshaw, 2017). This means their race and gender impact both their psychological experiences as well as their mental well-being. African American women are at a higher risk to develop Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and also face more mental health challenges than other racial groups in America (Castelin & Grace, 2022). As a result of attending this workshop, participants will be able to: 1. Discuss and learn specific issues of mental health for Black women 2. Explain the Strong Black Woman schema and adultification bias. 3. Identify evidence-based and best practices interventions that can reduce stress and improve coping among Black women and mothers.
