The Sawubona Circle of healing is a safe spaces for conference attendees, namely those of African ancestry, that draw upon culturally-grounded healing strategies in coping with anti-Black racial trauma/stress and community violence. This circle is not therapy, but more so educational. They are supportive and culturally-affirming spaces to promote wellness and overall social-emotional adjustment. Participants will learn principles of cultural wisdom and protective factors to assist in coping with racial stress. With open minds, Dr. Joy Degruy will help us explore together ways of deepening our capacity to heal, alleviate our suffering, and find meaning in both challenge and joy.
