This presentation gets back to the basics of helping individuals who may be at risk of suicide and/or non-suicidal self-injury. It provides an introduction to suicidal ideation and behavior. It also identifies useful assessment tools, evidence-based treatment approaches, and intervention strategies.
After the session, participants will be able to:
Describe the prevalence, risk factors, and protective factors of suicidal ideation and behavior using current research and statistics.
Utilize evidence-based assessment tools to stratify suicide risk (low, moderate, high) and determine appropriate responses for each level.
Explain and apply evidence-based treatment approaches (e.g., CBT-SP, DBT, CAMS) and safety planning interventions for suicide prevention.
Identify effective intervention strategies for managing high-risk individuals, including crisis response, emergency services, and hospitalization criteria.
