“Racial and ethnic groups differ in their access to culturally appropriate behavioral health treatment, experiences of discrimination and historical trauma, and other factors that may be related to suicide risk.” (https://www.mhanational.org/). Overall, mental health conditions occur in Black/African American (B/AA) people in America at about the same or less frequency than in White Americans. However, the historical B/AA experience continues to be characterized by trauma and violence more often than for their White counterparts and impacts mental health of both youth/adults (SPRC.org). Join us as we discuss how this is impacts the lives of our students and community.
