Is Health Literacy a Dead Idea or a Matter of Life and Death?

Candace Robledo, PhD, MPH, is a faculty member within the UTRGV School of Medicine, Department of Population Health and Biostatistics. As a member of the Hidalgo County Community Engagement Research Alliance (CEAL) Against COVID-19 Disparities team, Dr. Robledo has been assisting in efforts to conduct prevention and intervention activities to ensure Latinos living in the Rio Grande Valley have accurate information about COVID-19 prevention behaviors, testing and vaccines. She has also been leading research studies to understand how the COVID-19 pandemic is impacti¬¬ng the mental health and well-being of Latinos. Dr. Robledo obtained her doctorate in epide¬miology from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and received post-doctoral training within the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. She has also obtained her Master’s in Public Health from Texas A&M University Health Sciences Center.
