Peer to Manager: Navigating relationships as a Leader
10:30 AM - 11:30 AM Wed
Michael Labbe is the Director of the Bureau of Emergnecy Communications for the Maine Department of Public Safety. His journey in Emergency Communications began in 2001 when he started for the City of Augusta Police dispatch center. In 2012 he joined the team at DPS-Augusta RCC as an Emergency Communications Specialist until September 2019 when he accepted a position with the Maine State Police AIU: Access Integrity Unit. While he found his time spent in the AIU to be fruitful, the work was not as fulfilling or meaningful as being a part of the team in the communications center. In March 2021 Michael returned to the communications center as the Operations Manager. In November 2025 he became the Director of the Bureau. While no longer a front-line dispatcher, he leverages the firsthand experience gained working the desk to identify potential challenges before they arise and offer practical solutions. By staying in tune with the team's needs and offering personalized guidance, he creates strategies that help the team work more efficiently and effectively. Michael is married with three children and enjoys traveling with his family, preferring to visit less-populated destinations. He is an avid fan of professional wrestling, cribbage, movies, reading, and blogging about a variety of topics. Taking advantage of work-related travel, Michael has made it a goal to visit as many ballparks as possible.
