Richard Newman is the author and/or editor of seven books in American, African American and/or Environmental History, including Freedom's Prophet: Bishop Richard Allen, the AME Church, and the Black Founding Fathers (available in print and as an audiobook with Random House audio). He has appeared on programs on both PBS and NPR, including most recently in Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr.'s "The Black Church." He is currently completing a book entitled, "American Emancipations: The Making and Unmaking of Black Freedom, 1619-the Present."
