Session 2: Disruption to Traditional International Tax Norms

Jan has held several positions at IBFD including Director of the Knowledge Centre. He performs various academic, teaching and government consultancy activities and is liaison officer for relations with the OECD, UN (member of the UN Subcommittee on the Taxation of Extractive Industries) and ICC (member of its Tax Committee).
Jan is Professor of International and European Tax Law at Łodz University in Poland, and visiting Professor at both the Renmin University of China in Beijing and the Finance University of the Government of the Russian Federation in Moscow, and also teaches at, among others, the Universities of Leiden, São Paulo and Amsterdam. He has chaired several Asian tax authorities symposiums in which around 25 Asia-Pacific countries participate, as well as a seminar at the annual IFA Congress in Mumbai, and has held presentations or acted as the chair of panels at many international conferences.
Previously, he worked at the Dutch Ministry of Finance for 19 years, as Head of the Divisions on Company Tax Legislation and on Bilateral Tax Treaties of the Directorate-General for Tax Policy and Legislation. He is a member of the International Fiscal Association (participating in its Permanent Scientific Committee as Supervisor of the IFA researcher and having supervised more than 25 extensive research papers on a wide range of international tax topics for IFA Congresses), of the European Association of Tax Law Professors, and of the Dutch Association for Tax Science. He holds and has held several (unpaid) positions in organizations with charitable purposes and was granted the Medal for Science and Society of Łodz University, and the Knight’s Cross in the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland.
