Keynote - Social Prescribing momentum: from global, to the local
10:20 AM - 11:10 AM Tue
Our world needs fresh ideas to repair our fragile places. Seth Kaplan seeks those solutions as one of world's leading experts on fragile states, societies, communities, and neighborhoods. By focusing on improving the underlying social dynamics – social relationships, social capital, and social institutions – he has been effective at advancing conflict resolution, navigating political transitions, community building, and improving neighborhood health. The focus on the social differentiates him from others in these fields.
Kaplan is a Professorial Lecturer in the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins University, Senior Adviser to the Institute of Integrated Transitions (IFIT), and Visiting fellow with the Mercatus Center's Program on Pluralism and Civil Exchange. He also helps governments and organizations around the world, including the World Bank, USAID, OECD, US State Department, and various donors, philanthropists, nonprofits, and community organizations, strategize and implement programs to address various forms of social fragility.
His achievements include:
* Co-authored as senior advisor the most important global report on conflict prevention over the past decade, the United Nations – World Bank flagship report Pathways for Peace: Inclusive Approaches to Preventing Violent Conflict
* Helped establish as senior advisor and member of executive team IFIT as the leading organization worldwide working on transitions from authoritarianism and violent conflict
* Build and facilitate brain trusts of local leaders seeking to advance change on the ground in many different settings
* Develop strategic guidebooks for organizations such as the State Department, USAID, and United States Institute of Peace
* Publish a wide range of essays in major publications
