Adopting Modern Building Codes

Lissette RodrÃguez Tomasini is the Assistant Executive Director of Construction Codes and Technology at OGPe, where she leads the code review and adoption process, coordinating educational programs for code enforcement, safety outreach initiatives, and technology strategies in permit issuance. During the 2018 cycle, after hurricanes Irma and Maria, as co-leader of the Codes Committee, she played a key role in adopting and reviewing Puerto Rico's Construction Codes. She served as a technical liaison for OGPe/DDEC and FEMA on innovative projects such as the Puerto Rico Wind Study and the Safe Plans program. As part of the leadership of the Puerto Rico Codes Committee, she received the ICC Community Service Award in 2019 for her contributions to public safety in Puerto Rico. She holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico and a degree in Computer Science from the University of Maryland University College. She has over 35 years of project management experience in the government, construction, higher education, and information technology sectors. She is deeply committed to improving construction safety, resilience, and environmental enhancement, as well as driving technological advancements in Puerto Rico.
