Engineer Daniel Hernández Morales has over 34 years of extensive and continuous experience in electrical engineering. From 2021 to 2023 he worked in LUMA as Director of Renewable Projects, facilitating and coordinating the strategic interconnection process of large-scale renewable generation projects.
Daniel worked in PREPA for 32 years and held different positions ending the last three years as Director of Generation. In that position, he was responsible for the operation and maintenance of the entire base generation fleet and oversaw the reserve generation fleet of Puerto Rico. He has held other leadership positions related to the Protection systems and maintenance programs in substations, transmission, distribution, and generation.
He has overseen large-scale projects such as the review of the protection design and the test protocols for the commissioning of generating units 5 and 6 (combined cycles with a net capacity of 232 MW each) of the Central San Juan, as well as the supervision of the commissioning of gas-insulated substations (GIS), Utility Scale Renewable Projects (IPPs), among other projects that cover the Generation, Transmission and Distribution systems.
He is a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico, Bayamón, where he completed with high honor a bachelor’s degree in Electronic Technology, and from the Polytechnic University, where he concluded, with high distinction, a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and a master’s degree in Management Engineering.
