Protecting Consumers in a Renewable Energy Era

The Acting Secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs (DACO), Lisoannette M. González Ruiz has a Juris Doctor from the Faculty of Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico. She also has a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism from the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, along with a Associate Degree in Education conferred by the University of Puerto Rico, Campus of Ponce.
Ms. González Ruiz began practicing law in 2005. Her professional career included serving as a Special Prosecutor in the Specialized Unit of Domestic Violence, Sexual Crimes and Child Abuse in the Department of Justice until 2014. She then ventured into private practice handling criminal, civil, administrative, family and notary cases, among others.
In December 2022 she was appointed Undersecretary of the DACO from where she implemented a series of initiatives aimed at safeguarding consumer rights such as the reactivation of the Office against Obscenity and Child Pornography, the development of the Office for Compliance and Commercial Liaison and the Unit for the Detection of Fraudulent Schemes against the Consumer, among others.
On April 27, 2023, she assumed the position of Acting Secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs.
