Levi Johnson is the Director of the Center for Transformative Undergraduate Experiences (TrUE). A product of several small towns from across West Texas, he came to Texas Tech University thinking that Lubbock was the big city. He found his place in the large research university specifically through high-impact educational experiences like the Honors College First Year Experience, writing-intensive courses, and undergraduate research. These opportunities were truly transformational, and they launched him into a career focused on increasing access to similar opportunities for future Red Raiders!
Levi earned B.A. and M.S. degrees in mathematics from Texas Tech, and he is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership Policy in the TTU College of Education. As a TTU undergraduate student, Levi played trombone in the Goin' Band from Raiderland, worked as a student assistant for TTU IT Help Central, and engaged in undergraduate research with the TTU Honors College and the Institute for Studies in Pragmaticism. Before joining TrUE, his professional work centered on enhancing academic programming at the intersections between PK-12 and higher education through institutional efforts such as the Estacado Early College High School, the East Lubbock Promise Neighborhood Grant, and STEM Education and Outreach.
Away from the office, Levi enjoys spending time with his wife, Sarah Beth, their two young sons, and their non-traditional lapdog, Brandy (a Saint Bernard). He collects fountain pens, drinks too much coffee, can't get enough podcasts and audiobooks, and loves a good pun or “dad joke.”
