Al Heartley currently serves as Managing Director of the Virginia Wadsworth Wirtz Center for the Performing Arts at Northwestern University where he oversees all operational and programmatic aspects of the center. A recent graduate of Yale School of Drama, he has worked at various theaters across the country in managerial positions including the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, Yale Repertory Theatre, The Guthrie Theater, Cleveland Play House, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, and Writers Theater. Recently, Al started ALJP Consulting, a search and consulting firm with Jocelyn Prince focusing on mid-level and executive hiring and organizational consulting. He has presented at the Theater Communications Group’s National Conference, TCG’s Fall Forum, the Commercial Theater Institute, the National Theater Institute, and the Humana Festival for New Plays at Actors Theatre of Louisville. He has written for American Theater Magazine and Nonprofit Quarterly. Al is the Development Committee Co-Chair of the National Board of the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network and a board member of Yale Summer Cabaret. He recently was selected as a fellow for the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Foundation’s Reality initiative.
