Evolution of Water Reuse: Guidelines & Innovations

His experience includes facility design, regulatory and standards development, technology performance verification, resource recovery, operator training and support, process optimization and effluent disposal and reuse. Troy is an expert in the area of integrated water management which includes wastewater reclamation and reuse and was the technical advisor to Health Canada and the provinces in the establishment of the national water reuse guidelines as well as advisor to the Alberta government Task Force on reuse and the work carried out by Canada Mortgage and Housing implementing reuse systems in northern homes and coop developments across Canada. His design experience ranges from individual household systems for off-grid residences through to being the engineer of record for municipal water reclamation plants with capacities exceeding 50 MGD. Dr. Vassos is also active in developing international water reuse standards and involvement in numerous federal and international technical and professional water reuse committees and advisory boards including the Canadian Standards Association, Standards Council of Canada, International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials, the Water Reuse and Distributed Water Committees of the Water Environment Federation and the International Standards Organization. This work includes serving as a technical expert to the ISO TC282 Water Reuse standards development committee since 2014 and the development of NSF Standard 350 and CSA B128.3 reuse package plant standards and CSA B128.1/B128.2 non-potable water distribution system standards. Troy is employed as the Technical Director for Integrated Sustainability Consultants Inc. with offices in Calgary, Vancouver, San Diego and Barbados, and he is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering (Environmental Engineering Group) at the University of British Columbia, where he has lectured in water reuse and water/wastewater treatment design and co-supervises graduate student research since 2001.
