In 1991 he married his wife and moved from Canmore to the High River area to continue his occupation as a heavy equipment operator. High River was where the introduction to installing onsite wastewater systems began. In 2003 the High River construction company boss urged Daniel to attend the Alberta Onsite Wastewater Contractors Association installer training program as the Government of Alberta had made the training mandatory for anyone wanting to be a septic installer in the province. After successfully completing the training program Daniel continued to install septic systems and realized the soils and design components were of specific interest. Wanting to keep increasing his knowledge, Daniel became involved as a board member with the Alberta Onsite Wastewater Management Association and began mentoring with existing trainers and eventually began delivering training for AOWMA. Additional soil days, working and conversing with soil experts and reading numerous books on soils gave the necessary knowledge to move on to the design component. For the last 17 years Daniel has strictly completed soils and septic designs for numerous installers from areas all over the province. Typically, the designs are residential however Daniel has completed soils evaluations for other large commercial projects. Daniel continues to instruct the certification program for AOWMA and has also been a member of the working groups for the 2009, 2015, 2021 and future 2026 Alberta Private Sewage Systems Standard of Practice code books.
