AMA Update - Q&A Session: Alberta Municipal Affairs
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Fri
For 10 years Jon was an environmental health officer on First Nations lands in Alberta. During this time, he dealt with routine work of assessing water quality, poor housing conditions, other environmental health concerns, and the approval of private sewage disposal systems. Jon assisted with the development of Alberta’s Standard of Practice and also assisted in the development of a GIS system and the overhaul and maintenance of an inspection database. Looking for a change, Jon brought his knowledge and experience to Alberta Health and worked on developing policies and reviewed regulations relating to food safety and other public health issues. Jon moved to a project management role with Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health where he worked on a number of files, including the provincial response to opioids, effects stemming from the legalization of cannabis and a provincial strategy to deal with antimicrobial resistance. After working with Alberta Health for a few years, Jon moved to Municipal Affairs. As Director of mechanical codes, he oversees a team that develop and interpret safety codes across the province. He leads a diverse team of technical staff and continues to work with the team to improve our safety code system.
