CC1: Climate change impacts on the Nile Basin ***ENDED
1:45 PM - 4:00 PM Fri
The paper used downscaled and bias corrected precipitation, temperature and potential evapotranspiration data from GCMs to study the effect of climate change on groundwater recharge and base flow in Tekeze sub-catchment in Ethiopia. A declining trend in precipitation coupled with rise in evapotranspiration was observed that produced reduction in groundwater recharge and baseflow. :
The paper quantifies the impact of climate variability and land use/land cover changes on streamflow in the Upper Rwizi Catchment in the Lake Victoria Basin by integrating semi-distributed rainfall-runoff models together with GIS and remote sensing tools. The paper concludes that climate variability has a relatively bigger effect on streamflow and recommends greater efforts be made at climate change adaptation in the water resources management sector.
