RO1: The role and significance of coordinated operation of water storage reservoirs ***ENDED
1:45 PM - 4:00 PM Mon
This paper aims to support decision making on potential pathways for development of agriculture in the Eastern Nile Basin. Using a modelling approach, the paper assesses two scenarios of development of cereal (wheat, maize, rice, barley, sorghum and millet) production along two pathways: (a) vertical (intensification) and (b) horizontal (extensification) and shows significant savings in water for the intensification option.:
The paper presents work carried out under ENTRO on development of options for coordinated operation of existing and planned dams in the Eastern Nile Sub-basin. The paper highlights strategic options, and the prerequisites for effective coordination of water infrastructure development and operation.
