The paper cites to cases in Sudan where sediment management has been practiced: Khashm-El-Girba Dam on the Atbara river, and Kassala town along the Gash river. The two areas have applied different management approaches that produced different outcomes. The paper reviews these two approaches and draws lessons from them from application in other areas.:
This paper presents results of a survey of cage fish farming on inland water bodies in Africa, include small and large lakes in the Nile Basin. The study found that cage fish farming is on the rise but that best practices were not being adhered to, with a risk of making this activity environmentally harmful, socially disruptive and therefore unsustainable.
