The "Water Column", published monthly in northwestern Wisconsin, celebrated its 10th anniversary this spring. Like my naturalist work, the more I learned – the more I understood how much is yet unknown. For me, writing has been like I am a tree, with roots and branches growing at intervals over the seasons. Overwhelming, at times, in simplicity, complexity, and beauty, periodically with a demanding growth habit. While my work began as a simple outreach tool for WDNR, the low hanging fruit has slowly evolved in favor of a pool of collective experience and creativity, as small parts of life experience and personality seep into my work. In the end, I hope the shared stories and science I have written about intrigue and inspire others to protect the future of "our" land and water and all those who depend upon it.
