Plenary: Advancing Health for Immigrant and Refugee Populations

Rishi Sood is Director of Policy & Immigrant Initiatives at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Mr. Sood leads various policy initiatives to improve access to health insurance and quality primary care for all New York City residents. He leads the NYC Health Department’s efforts to improve health care access for immigrant populations. In 2014 and 2015, he co-chaired the NYC Mayor’s Task Force on Immigrant Health Care Access. He has also been instrumental in designing local policies to facilitate health care access for unaccompanied immigrant children.
Mr. Sood earned a master’s degree in public health and an undergraduate degree in medical anthropology from Case Western Reserve University. He has previously worked at the Prevention Research Center for Healthy Neighborhoods in Cleveland, OH and at the Nassau County Department of Health in New York. He is currently pursuing a DrPH in public health leadership at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
