Brainstorming the Future of Stroke - A Jeffersonian Dinner

After joining UT Houston Medical School faculty in 1979, Dr. Grotta has been a leader in acute ischemic stroke research and management. He established the UT Stroke Program and developed its NIH funded fellowship training program, and played a leading role in many clinical research studies, including the NINDS TPA Stroke Study. He was a founding member of the TTST meeting, and hosted the meeting in 2018.
After serving as Department Chair from 2006-2013, Dr. Grotta moved his practice to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he leads the Mobile Stroke Unit Consortium, the nation's first Mobile Stroke Unit to deliver TPA and other stroke therapies wherever the stroke occurs. He was P.I. of the PCORI funded multicenter BEST-MSU study that recently demonstrated better clinical outcomes and cost-effectiveness with MSU compared to standard management by EMS.
Dr. Grotta edits an authoritative textbook on Stroke, has published over 500 scientific manuscripts, and has received numerous awards for his research, clinical work and mentoring.
