Peter D. Schellinger is a Professor of Neurology and Chairman of the Departments of Neurology and Neurogeriatrics at Johannes Wesling Medical Center Minden, university clinic of the Ruhr University in Bochum. He was also a member of the medical faculties of the universities in Erlangen and Heidelberg, Germany.
Professor Schellinger’s main research interests are in the diagnosis and therapy of acute ischaemic stroke and intracranial haemorrhage, secondary prophylaxis and neuroprotection in neurovascular disease, and neurological critical care. He is board certified for neurology, geriatrics, and intensive care medicine. He has contributed to numerous major acute stroke and intracranial haemorrhage trials and secondary prophylaxis trials for stroke since 1994.
Professor Schellinger served as board/committee member of various international and German neurological societies such as World Stroke Organization, European Stroke Organisation (ESO), American Stroke Association, and German Stroke Society, and was member of the Executive Committees of the German Society for Neurocritical Care and Emergency Medicine as well as the European Stroke Organization. He is also a fellow member of the ESO and the American Heart Association. He has been member of editorial and review boards for numerous journals including European Neurology, Lancet, Neurology, Stroke, Journal of Stroke, and Cerebrovascular Diseases. He has authored and co-authored more than 340 peer-reviewed publications with a cumulative impact factor more than 2000 points, three books and more than 40 book chapters and a current H-index of 67. He has authored and co-authored national and European guidelines since 2003, the latest being the ESO guidelines for thrombectomy and endovascular bridging therapy as well the German acute stroke guidelines
