Attorney Guardian ad Litem, Kacy Crandall, has been with the Utah Office of Guardian ad litem since July 2011, first as a conflict Guardian ad Litem and then on a full-time basis since January 2014. Kacy took on the role of mentoring and training private and conflict Guardian ad Litem attorneys as the Private and Conflict Guardian ad Litem Coordinator over four years ago. Kacy has been appointed primarily in the Fourth District Juvenile Court in Wasatch County and in the majority of child protective order as well as district court protective order cases in Utah and Wasatch Counties. Having specialized in this area, Kacy is sensitive to the effects of over-involvement of children in litigation. She is well-versed and informed of the AFCC and its goals, practice guidelines and standards dedicated to the resolution of family conflict. Kacy has been and will continue while in the position of Private and Conflict Guardian ad Litem Coordinator to be THE GAL that other family law attorneys call when they have questions procedurally or fact specific about protective orders or other district court matters. Kacy is truly gracious and generous, happily giving freely of her time and energy on behalf of children and those professionals who represent their best interests. Kacy finds the work of Guardians ad litem stimulating, challenging, and gratifying, as well as absolutely necessary, and recruits and trains others with passion and commitment to engage in this type of work in both the district and juvenile court systems Kacy serves on the AFCC Board of Directors and the advisory board of the Wasatch County Children’s Justice Center collaborating with professionals and other community members representing many different fields and all walks of life. In addition, Kacy has been certified to complete forensic interviews, developing skills which are invaluable to acquiring and analyzing important information from clients. Prior to her work with the Office of Guardian ad Litem, Kacy was an associate with the law firm of Allan & Easton. The two partners at the firm are former prosecutors who practiced criminal law exclusively until Kacy built a family law practice from the ground up. Her efforts as a family law attorney were reflected in an important personal achievement: Kacy was voted Best Divorce Attorney in the Daily Herald's Best of Utah County Readers' Choice Awards. The experience she gained as a family law and criminal defense attorney have helped her be well-rounded as a GAL and assists her in performing knowledgably as the Private and Conflict Guardian ad Litem Coordinator. Additionally, Kacy has worked as an adjunct professor at Utah Valley University, teaching in the legal studies department. Finally, and most importantly, Kacy is a mother of three bright and beautiful boys. She is kind caring and compassionate on their behalf, but she is also their best and most aggressive advocate. She brings those same qualities to her work as an attorney Guardian ad Litem on behalf of the children she represents. Kacy welcomes the opportunity to advocate for many, many more children by guiding and supporting the Private and Conflict Guardians ad Litem appointed to be their voices!
