Civility Under Pressure: Using Empathy to Defuse Conflict in Family Law
2:30 PM - 3:45 PM Thu
Ann Ordway, J.D., Ph.D., joined AFCC in July 2021 as Program Director. In this role, Ann supports AFCC’s chapters, develops educational programming, provides staff support for special projects, and collaborates on the production of AFCC eNEWS. She came to AFCC from the University of Phoenix in Phoenix, Arizona, where she taught graduate-level students in the counseling department. Ann practiced family law for more than 25 years before retiring from private practice. She is also a National Certified Counselor and continues to work in the areas of parenting coordination and child advocacy. In 1991, she co-founded the Battered Women’s Legal Advocacy Project in Morris County, New Jersey, which provides pro bono legal representation to victims of domestic violence. Her doctoral dissertation, examining the experiences of parenting coordinators working with high-conflict couples affected by intimate partner violence dynamics, serves as the foundation for her current research. Ann plays an integral role in supporting the Utah Chapter and is beloved by every member of the Utah AFCC leadership team. Her responsiveness, generosity, institutional knowledge, and steady encouragement have been invaluable to our chapter. We are thrilled that she is traveling from her home in Queen Creek, Arizona, to join us for this year’s conference.
