Jeff Darrow serves as Planning Director for the County of Hawai‘i, bringing more than 25 years of dedicated public service and extensive experience in Land Use and Community Planning. He began his County career in 1992 as a Police Officer before transitioning to the Planning Department in 1998, where he initially served as an Inspector. Over the years, Jeff has held various key roles within the department, culminating in his appointment as Deputy Planning Director in 2021 and now as Director. He has led critical initiatives including updates to the County’s General Plan, Zoning Code, and Subdivision Code, and is instrumental in guiding policies related to Coastal Zone Management and Sustainable Development. Jeff is committed to transparent, community-driven Planning and advancing responsible growth across Hawai‘i Island. When not at work, he enjoys surfing, bodyboarding, and skiing.
