Dr. Charlos S. Banks currently serves as the Chief of School Support and Wellness in Chapel Carrboro City Schools where she oversees various departments to include Exceptional Children, Accountability and Research, Afterschool Programs, school discipline, mental health services, counseling services, nursing, and school social workers. She has been a North Carolina educator for 29 years, starting as a secondary classroom teacher and secondary school counselor before becoming a high school administrator. After serving as a school administrator for six years, Banks transitioned to central office as an executive director of student services in Guilford County Schools, Greensboro. N.C., and additionally served as interim assistant superintendent of student support services in Guilford County Schools.
During her tenure with Guilford County Schools, Dr. Banks led the GCS Character Development Department in supporting high school students in documenting over 2 million hours of service which calculated to over 41 million dollars of economic impact as measured by the North Carolina hourly volunteer rate. When she served as a principal, The Middle College at GTCC High Point received a 100% graduation rate and exceeded expected growth during her first year of leadership. Under her leadership, the school was also named an Honor School of Excellence and one of Guilford County Schools’ Ten Most Improved Schools. Most recently, Banks was presented with the Deborah Childs - Bowen Leadership for Equity Award for her leadership in revising Chapel Hill - Carrboro City Schools' disciplinary practices which led to the reduction of disproportionate disciplinary referrals and outcomes for students of color.
Charlos is very active in the Guilford County and Chapel Hill communities having served on the board of directors for United Way, former chair of the board for Community in Schools of Greater Greensboro and former chair of the board for Family Success Alliance in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Dr. Banks holds a bachelor of arts degree in English from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She also holds master's degrees in School Counseling from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and in School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Banks earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership from High Point University.
Dr. Banks is very passionate about improving outcomes for youth by increasing access to supports that remove barriers to learning. Charlos currently resides in Greensboro with her husband, Anthony, and twelve-year-old daughter, Charleston Danielle.
