Natalie Martinez, Ph.D. (Kâawaika-meh, Laguna Pueblo) is a professional educator. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor in Curriculum & Instruction at New Mexico State University. Dr. Martinez also collaborates on Indigenous-centered curriculum projects including Indigenous Wisdom; Indigenous New Mexico; Indigenous Science Initiative, and IndigNM. Her curriculum guides support books such as: An Indigenous Peoples' History of the United States for Young People; Indigenous Ingenuity; Wings of an Eagle: The Gold Medal Dreams of Billy Mills; and her forthcoming guide for The Rediscovery of America for Young People, and several titles used in the California Indigenous Education for All Initiative. Book chapters authored by Dr. Martinez appear in Luminous Literacies and The Yazzie Case: Interrogating the Yazzie/Martinez Lawsuit. She has written and interviewed for the International Journal for Adolescent and Adult Literacy. Additionally, her professional development work with the OER Project is available online. Dr. Martinez is a former principal and teacher at her Pueblo Nation; she taught at the University of New Mexico and continues to serve as a mentor in the Native American Teacher Preparation Program; she also taught at Central NM Community College and currently engages with the newly formed Indigenous Teacher Preparation Project.
