Tyler is a Dakota/Lakota/Ojibwe designer and enrolled member of the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, Bdewakantunwun band. Currently a full-time student at United Tribes Technical College, where she is dual majoring in Business Administration and Indigenous Leadership. Tyler is an award-winning artist whose lifelong passion for creativity is now coming to life through her growing brand, NIYÉ (nee-yeh). Derived from the Dakota/Lakota word Niyé, meaning “you are the one – it is you – you are the one to choose or decide,” the brand encourages people to embrace who they are and take pride in where they come from. “It is important to me that people are proud of who they are and proud of where we descend from. I have always been an artist, I come from artists; quilters, sculptors, quillers and beaders. The goal of my designs are to share stories that have meaning and connections. We, the Oyate – the People, are not always focused on the excess of something, but the mere fact that someone took the time to craft, create and attain something for you, with you in mind. That is how we show our love.” Through NIYÉ, Tyler hopes to build a brand that Indigenous people can proudly choose as part of their everyday lives. Her vision is to create meaningful, accessible apparel that celebrates Native identity, culture, and storytelling while increasing Indigenous representation in modern fashion. “Wear it. Live it. Niyé.”
