Sandy is a former classroom teacher and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas. She has been employed with the North Carolina Council on Economic Education, NCCEE, since August of 2005. She began as the Stock Market Game coordinator, followed by program director and executive director. Sandy has worked tirelessly to promote economic and financial literacy throughout North Carolina. She has forged partnerships with multiple LEAs, the Department of Public Instruction, and institutions of higher learning. Sandy was appointed by both Governors McCrory and Cooper to serve on the North Carolina Financial Literacy Council which studies financial literacy efforts across the state and reports back with recommendations to the Governor and the North Carolina General Assembly. Sandy is currently leading the charge to provide the required professional development for teachers so that they are well prepared to teach the Economics and Personal Finance that is now required for high school graduation. Sandy was an instrumental member of the coalition that worked toward this course’s creation and requirement. In addition to her work with NCCEE, Sandy works with the Church Pension Group to provide financial education workshops and seminars for clergy. She is active in her church and is currently serving as senior warden there. Sandy is married with two adult sons, a cat and a dog and a precious new grandson.
