Ambassador John Kayode Shinkaiye is a distinguished Nigerian diplomat and former National President of the Association of Retired Career Ambassadors of Nigeria (ARCAN). He served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, and Djibouti, and was Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the OAU/AU and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.
He played a key role in transforming the OAU to the AU and later served as Chief of Staff to two African Union Commission Chairpersons, coordinating partnerships with countries and organizations worldwide. After his tenure at the African Union, he contributed to the private sector and remains active in ARCAN, advocating for foreign policy advancements in Nigeria.
Ambassador Shinkaiye has received numerous honors, including the Lieutenant of the Royal Order of Victoria (LVO), the Medal of the Grand Cross of the Order of Independence (GCOI), and the Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR). He is a Fellow of the Academy of International Affairs (FAIA), Nigeria, and a Member of the National Institute (mni).
In 2023, he received the Medal of Glory Award (MOGA) for his leadership and contributions to diplomacy, peace, security, and economic integration in Africa. In 2025, he was honored with ARCAN’s Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the Nigerian Foreign Service.
