Thomas Wallgren is a social activist, professor of philosophy and deputy member of the city council in Helsinki for the social democrats.
He has been involved in the critique of the Western development model and of sustainable development since the 1980s and in many initiatives for systemic change including Corporate Europe Observatory, Friends of the Earth, the World Social Forum and Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam - Alliance for Comprehensive Democracy. He is the author of "Transformative Philosophy: Socrates, Wittgenstein and the Democratic Spirit of Philosophy" and the main editor of the book *Challenging Authoritarian Capitalism: The Transformative Power of the World Social Forum* (forthcoming, Routledge).
