Thato Angelina Gabaitse, organised an “Earth Day” walkathon in 2016 to sensitize the nation and various stakeholders on the importance of honoring the earth. My efforts contributed to various organisations participating in the then theme of the year, “Plant a tree”.
In 2018, I organised a 60-day social media campaign to raise awareness on the emancipation of women in Botswana. The social media campaign entailed daily updates on the facts stating the status and statistics of Gender Based Violence in the country, as well as a quote advocating for the necessary reforms that need to be put into consideration by legislators. During the social media campaign, I organised engagements with relevant stakeholders such as police, health workers and legislators to caucus the way forward to curb the social ill.
In 2020, we now see the same policy reforms being discussed and implemented during parliamentary sittings.
In 2021, we piloted and established sustainable human and community development programs. The project encompasses social and economic empowerment programs along with environmental stewardship through story-telling, awareness campaigns and educational workshops such as financial literacy and entrepreneurial skills for children, youth, women and men in rural and remote communities.
These programs are designed to empower displaced communities and women-led households as they are hardly affected by the effects of climate change.
