Demetra Castillo is an award-winning medical laboratory science educator and hematology expert with over two decades of experience in clinical, academic, and leadership roles. She currently serves as an Associate Professor at the University of Cincinnati’s College of Allied Health Sciences, where she teaches across undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral-level MLS programs. Her extensive teaching portfolio includes hematology, hemostasis, molecular diagnostics, and statistics, and she is a key architect in curriculum development for emerging MLS education pathways. Demetra’s passion for hematology is deeply rooted in both practice and scholarship. She has served as course director for hematology programs at multiple institutions and has authored and contributed to widely used textbooks and publications, including chapters in Medical Laboratory Science Review and Clinical Hematology: Theory and Procedures. Her invited presentations have addressed topics ranging from erythropoiesis and hematologic malignancies to global perspectives on coagulation. Another passion of Toula's is developing leaders. As a newly minted PhD in Medical Health Professions Education, her scholarly work focuses on leadership development and reflective practice in MLS education. Her contributions to the profession have been recognized with numerous honors, including the ASCLS-IL Educator of the Year Award and the prestigious Robert H.
