Mallory Prucha is an Assistant Professor of Costume Design and Head of the Design Area at Texas Tech University. A multi-faceted Fine Artist, she is a member of United Scenic Artists, Local 829, IATSE and serves as Co-Vice Chair for Design Technology and Management for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, Region VI. She has achieved certification in Composite Drawing for Law Enforcement through Stuart Parks Forensics Associates and works as the Composite Sketch Artist for the Lubbock Police Department.
She received an MFA in Costume Design/Technology from the UNL Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film and holds an M.A. in Theatre Arts and a B.A. in Studio Art from the University of NE-Omaha. She has also taught at California State University-Chico, Mesa Community College, the University of WI-Eau Claire, University of NE-Lincoln and Iowa Western Community College.
She has spent over a decade working in professional theatre for such companies as Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre, Oregon Cabaret Theatre, Nebraska Shakespeare, Nebraska Repertory Theatre, Black Hills Playhouse, Southwest Shakespeare, in the capacity of Costume Designer, Master Cutter/Draper, Craftsperson, Dramaturg, Make-Up Artist, Scenic Designer, Scenic Charge Artist, and professional consultant. She is the Resident Costume Designer for Outpost Repertory Theatre.
Mallory also works as a professional freelance Fine Artist, published Illustrator, and Sidewalk Chalk Artist. She has recently illustrated 8 volumes of poetry for author Dr. Toni Poll-Sorensen, as well as "A Primer in Theatre History" by Dr. Bill Grange. A few of her illustrations can be found in "Theatrical Make-Up: Basic Application Techniques" by Sharon Sobel. She also specializes in coordinating moulage for large-scale first-response exercises and simulation, as well as graphic design.
At the TTU School of Theatre and Dance, she teaches courses ranging from Costume Design to Theatrical Collaboration, Stage Make-Up to Hand Rendering. Her work in the classroom has garnered her the TTU Alumni Association New Faculty Award for 2020.
