Seeing UGR Clearly: A Study on Background and Application Use of UGR
11:30 AM - 12:30 PM Sat
Melissa earned her B.S. and Ph.D in physics from the University of California, Merced where she studied non-imaging optics and solar thermal technologies under Dr. Roland Winston. It was during that time she developed a passion for shaping light. A portion of her research was completed in Yosemite National Park to bring about awareness of lighting pollution on wildlife. Upon completing her doctorate, she joined Acuity Brands Lighting, where she currently works with the optical team applying theories of non-imaging optics to design optics for luminaires.
While she has several publications through SPIE and the Journal of Photonics for Energy, she is most proud of the non-imaging optics tutorial publication she co-authored for Optical Society of America in their journal, Advances in Optics and Photonics. She has presented at many SPIE conferences, UC Solar and UC Light conferences, and enjoys sharing research and advances with the scientific community. While she enjoys many areas of physics, she has found her forever home in lighting.
