Effective School-Community Based Organization Partnerships

Myrna Torres is the Deputy Director for Children’s Aid Manhattan community schools located in East Harlem, Washington Heights, and Inwood. Myrna has served in the roles of Community School Director, Community School Consultant for Children’s Aid National Center for Community Schools, and in this role, she consulted with community schools in Hartford, Lehigh Valley and Washington, DC. As Community School Director for our flagship full service elementary school PS 5, Myrna strengthened parent involvement and after-school programs, forged effective relationships with the principal and school faculty, and coordinated all Children’s Aid services at the school, which included early childhood, medical, dental and mental health. Myrna is a licensed social worker with 38 years of professional practice. She brings extensive experience not only in community schools but also in early childhood, special education, parent education and training; foster care, prevention and adoption services for medically and chronically ill children. Myrna is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor and Certified Field Instructor at New York University. Myrna received her BA from Mount Holyoke College and her Masters in Social Work with a concentration in administration from Fordham University Graduate School of Social Services.
