From Site Control to Groundbreaking: An Affordable Housing Deal in Real Time

Dana Roper is a Partner in Nixon Peabody’s Affordable Housing & Real Estate practice group. Dana represents for-profit and nonprofit owners in acquiring, constructing, developing and preserving multifamily affordable housing and supportive housing. Dana works on all aspects of complex financing transactions, including acquisitions, tax exemptions, joint ventures, regulatory matters and debt and equity financing.
Dana frequently represents developers in transactions involving federal low-income housing tax credits (LIHTCs) and tax-exempt bonds, as well as a variety of subordinate funding sources. In addition to negotiating the financing aspects of these deals, she helps developers navigate and combine multiple regulatory schemes in a single transaction.
Dana has spent the entirety of her legal career working in the field of affordable housing. Prior to joining Nixon Peabody in 2013, Dana was an Attorney-Advisor in the New York Regional Office of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) where she represented the agency in multifamily transactions under various Federal Housing Administration (FHA) insurance programs. Dana received her J.D. from Harvard Law School and a Bachelor of Business Administration, with a concentration in Finance, from Howard University.
