David E. Gross, AIA is the Executive Partner of GF55 Architects based in New York City and with an office in Miami, Florida. David’s firm has long been recognized for its specific expertise in Mixed-Use Multifamily Housing, with over 12 million square feet of housing completed nationwide. This focus is complemented by a wide-ranging portfolio that includes Educational, Religious, Hospitality, Retail, Industrial and Residential Design.
David’s projects have been awarded two Urban Land Institute Models of Excellence Awards, an Andrew J. Thomas “Pioneer in Housing” Award from AIA New York, and an AIA Award of Merit for the renovation /expansion of a historic Mid-Century Modern house in Rye, New York. His design for the Remington Boys & Girls Clubhouse - a community facility that is part of larger master plan including an 11-story residential building with 179 units of workforce housing - has received several awards including The American Architecture Award (2025) and the Honor Award for Design from AIAWHV (2024).
David graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with Bachelor of Arts Cum Laude with Distinction in 1977 and earned a Master of Architecture in 1980. Deeply committed to advancing architectural education, he established the David E. Gross Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania’s Weitzman School of Design, where he also serves on the Dean’s Council of the School of Architecture. He is a visiting lecturer at the New York University – Schack institute of Real Estate. He has also been a visiting juror at Yale College, New Jersey Institute of Technology, and Pratt Institute. David serves on the boards of New York State Association for Affordable Housing (NYSAFAH), Citizens Housing and Planning Council (CHCP), the New York Housing Conference (NYHC), ArtsWestchester, and the Rye Arts Center. He is a member of the Business Council of Westchester (BCW), the Westchester County Association (WCA) Real Estate Task Force Committee, ULI Westchester-Fairfield, and The New York Builders Institute-The Building & Real Estate Institute (BR/BRI).
