Planning for the Future: College Savings and the Positive Impact on Students

Alayna Van Tassel joined the Massachusetts Treasurer’s Office in 2015 as the first Director of the Office of Economic Empowerment (OEE). Over the past five years, she has overseen the development of its operations and programs. Under Alayna’s direction OEE created Massachusetts’ first state-sponsored college savings account program; launched the first in the nation statewide salary negation workshop program; and expanded financial education programs for residents of all-ages including women, veterans, seniors, and students. Alayna has a Master of Arts degree in Public Policy with a concentration in women’s studies from The George Washington University and is a graduate of Suffolk University.
