Addressing Educator Shortage and Teacher Diversity in Times of Change in the Education Sector

Carrie Murthy, Westat, has 14 years of experience in education research and policy studies, with expertise in educator preparation, teacher quality, and college access and success. She directs the Title II, Higher Education Act (HEA) data collection, providing outreach and technical assistance to 59 states and more than 1,200 teacher preparation providers, assisting them with collecting, reporting, and using teacher preparation and certification data to measure the effectiveness of educator preparation programs. Ms. Murthy is a national expert on issues related to teacher preparation and HEA accountability. She works with a diverse range of federal programs related to the educator pipeline, diversity in the educator workforce, and educator effectiveness.
