Michael is an Australian and based in Hong Kong. He has more than 30 years’ experience advising on corporate tax matters including tax disputes, as well as wealth management, trust planning and estate succession matters.
He previously served as head of Baker McKenzie’s Asia regional tax group and wealth management group for many years, and also was Senior Advisor at KPMG in Hong Kong thereafter. He has more than 30 years’ experience advising on corporate tax matters including tax disputes, as well as wealth management, trust planning and estate succession matters. He has focused on Asia generally and Hong Kong specifically. Michael has served as Chairman of the Joint Liaison Committee on Taxation from 1986 to now. The JLCT is a quasi-governmental body that serves as a forum in Hong Kong between various business and professional bodies and the government on tax matters. He previously served as a member of the Inland Revenue Board of Review in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong government’s Broad-based Taxes Committee and government’s BEPS Advisory Committee. He acts as coordinator for the Capital Markets Tax Committee which is a regional body consisting of the tax directors of the major commercial and investment banks in Asia. He sits on the executive committee of IFA’s branch in Hong Kong. In addition, he has been a full-time lecturer in the Law Faculty of Hong Kong University, and remains a visiting lecturer in tax law there.
