Food Safety in the Age of Social Media: Bridging the Gap Between Science, Influence, and Public Trust
11:45 AM - 12:30 PM Fri
Tracy Fink, MS, is the Founder and Principal Advisor of ThinkFink Solutions, LLC, where she partners with executive and plant leadership teams to strengthen food safety systems, operational resilience, enterprise risk management, and organizational performance across global manufacturing operations. A hospitalized foodborne illness survivor, Tracy inspires organizations to transform everyday observations into stronger systems, smarter decisions, and ultimately safer outcomes for the people they serve.
Fink brings nearly 30 years of professional experience spanning production agriculture, food manufacturing, supply chain and logistics, food safety and quality, regulatory compliance, scientific programming, organizational leadership, and executive advisory work. From the production floor to the executive level, her experience includes regulatory and recall response, U.S., Canadian, and European food regulatory frameworks, environmental monitoring and pathogen control, sanitation and biofilm management, root cause analysis, and supplier and distribution risk. She works with organizations to identify vulnerabilities, strengthen systems, and protect public health and business continuity.
Fink is the creator of the Signal-to-System Framework™, an approach for recognizing leading indicators of system stress and connecting signals across people, processes, equipment, environment, and operations before they escalate into larger failures. Her work challenges organizations to look beyond isolated deviations and recurring corrective actions to understand the system conditions influencing food safety performance.
Her current work also extends into scientific research and sustainability. Invited to contribute to a U.S.-based academic research project examining the environmental prevalence of Cronobacter sakazakii, she collects soil and water samples from her assigned region for laboratory analysis. Fink is also completing MIT Professional Education's Professional Certificate Program in Sustainability, further integrating sustainability, systems thinking, and resilience into her work across the global food and agriculture system.
Fink holds an MS in Counseling and Human Resource Development–Administration from South Dakota State University, a BS in Animal and Plant Systems (Pre-Veterinary Medicine) with an emphasis in Dairy Science from the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities, and a Certificate in Logistics Management from Georgia Tech. Her food safety credentials include PCQI for Human Food and Animal Food, FSVP Lead Instructor, and HACCP. She is also a ServSafe Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM).
Fink serves on the Food Safety Tech Advisory Board and is a speaker, facilitator, educator, and contributor on food safety, sanitation, operational risk, supply chain resilience, and systems-based approaches to prevention.
