Dr. Joey Tapia is Associate Department Chair and Assistant Professor of Counseling and Human Services at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. He is a trilingual clinician fluent in English, Spanish, and American Sign Language, specializing in disability-responsive and culturally attuned care across the lifespan. Dr. Tapia’s research focuses on interabled couples, play therapy, and equity in counseling for Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, and disability communities. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, National Certified Counselor, and Registered Play Therapist. In addition, he serves as Interim President of Deaf Overcoming Violence through Empowerment (DOVE), advancing advocacy and services for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing survivors of violence.
