Breakout Session 1D - Deepak Prasad - Standing Shoulder to Shoulder: The Wellness Response for Police After Canada's Largest Mass Murder

This session will talk about having a proactive peer support team, reaching out to networks, using technology to support employees, using the incident command model in deploying resources, working with clinicians to ensure that first responders receive the best care possible, rather than "just" getting support. This will also talk about the importance of a follow-up program and resiliency.
Cpl. D. PRASAD is a regular member and peace officer with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and has previously served as a Border Services Officer and 911 Police Dispatcher. Until recently, Deepak was he Divisional Wellness Coordinator for the RCMP Nova Scotia Division and was the lead in the wellness response after Canada's largest mass murder. Deepak has studied first responder mental health at various institutions such as the JIBC, Dalhousie University, and Laurier University. Deepak is entering the second year of programming in the Doctorate of Policing at London Metropolitan University. Deepak holds several professional designations from organizations such as the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress, the Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists, University of Maryland, Baltimore County and Peer Support Canada.
