José Maeso is the Business Development Manager for Crowley’s Advanced Energy Solutions team in Puerto Rico, where he has been supporting the development of industrial and commercial microgrid and cogeneration projects since 2018. In previous years he was the Project Director and Director of Business Development for two federally sponsored programs at the Puerto Rico Energy Center, located at the University Ana G Mendez, Gurabo campus.
Mr. Maeso is also a former Executive Director of the State Office of Energy Policy (OEPPE) of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Mr. Maeso has contributed in articles about Puerto Rico’s energy situation and energy policy in recognized blog FiveThirtyEight and the Inter-American Dialogue’s newsletter Latin America Energy Advisor, as well as other newspapers, magazines and TV and radio interviews. He has worked with energy policy matters at the federal, state and local levels.
Previously Mr. Maeso served as the director of several industrial conglomerate initiatives at the Puerto Rico Manufacturers Association, and a consultant in the area of green buildings (including USGBC’s LEED certification). Mr. Maeso holds a Master's and Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez campus, and a Master's Degree in Public Policy and Urban Planning from Harvard University’s Kennedy School. Prior to his incursion into the construction and energy industries, Mr. Maeso was involved in the development of telecommunications infrastructure for almost a decade, including telephony, data and wireless networks.
